This is my favourite hotel / service apartment in Hong Kong. It’s very well managed, the staff are friendly and the location just above the park but within easy reach of Central or Soho or Admiralty / Wanchai and if you are a walker, it’s …
First of all, let me preface this by saying this will likely be an excellent hotel for almost everyone else - it would have been an easy 5 stars for me as well if not for two things which ruined my experience here.
The room temperature is a bit too difficult to get into a comfortable spot in the winter because the air conditioning only takes in wind from the outside, hence it can only match that or go lower.
My room was just 19C even when the AC thermostat was set at 30, just too cold. Yes this can be compensated by turning off the AC and borrowing a heater (which I did), however then the room becomes a bit dry over time and they do not have any humidifiers which they can lend.
However my biggest issue this stay was getting this random guest who probably misremembered his/her friends room number with mine, and kept calling me at the absolute worst times (6.45am twice, 1am once, on the day of my morning flight no less.. which completely messed up my sleep that night) and that's even after I unplugged the power and phone line cord. I really don't get how it's still able to ring - the only thing left was a thin black wire which cannot be disconnected.
Anyways, you could say that was bad luck, and not really the hotels fault, which is partially true. However this has not once ever happened after staying close to a 100 hotels in my life time.
The thing is, I asked the reception to disable the in room to room call, which she said she would do - I don't know if the system was busted or what (because it clearly didn't work).
Eitherway, the hotel needs to find a way for people to completely disconnect their phones otherwise this could happen to you as well, and there is nothing worse than a trip when you can't get peaceful rest because of fear the phone may ring at any time during your nights sleep.
So its really a pity because otherwise there's a lot to like about the hotel, they do a lot of things right. But at the end of the day, I can't give it a good rating because of what happened.
Excellent Hotel!
I was very happy to have chosen this hotel for a 5-day stay with my small family (wife and two small children).
I don't give it 5 stars due to the following:
- It is very close to the central market area, which is great. It allows you to go up and down to the busy central market and other areas for walking. But, it is a bit steep and requires you to commit to this 10ish minute walk
- When we arrived, we went up to our room, and there was a very loud construction noise. Enough to make it impossible to be in the room. We've arrived from a 20+ plane and airport trip and wanted to use the room to rest. There was a note on the room table saying that they are sorry but, from 10am to 17pm, renovation is ongoing. This is unacceptable because we don't rent rooms by the hour. We rent it to use it when we want, for 24h period. Not being able to use it for a good part of the day got me really annoyed. I told that to the front desk. They made amends by putting us on the other side of the hotel, where the noise of the renovations was barely noticeable. For that, they had to upgrade us to a slightly bigger room and did not charge. Yes, it was nice to have a bigger room with no charge, but the situation still didn't feel right.
- Breakfast is straightforward. It could be better. We called from the room, asked for it, and went to get it to have it in the room. Cappuccinos and lattes are good but not included. We need to pay extra. Not a huge problem.
The fact that it is close to a mini zoo and a small garden is a plus.
It is definitely cramped in between tall buildings and small and winding roads, but it is central Hong Kong, so... not easy to solve that :)
A small gym is nice, the laundry facilities are nice, and the staff is very kind.
At the end of the day, I would stay there again. I liked it very much, and I recommend it.
We stayed here for 9 nights for our wedding in Hong Kong and we had an excellent time, as did the various family members that we booked for as well.
We had booked spacious Superior Suites, which were excellent for our purposes and are really very large by HK standards.
Very handy facilities such as nearly all-day dining in a pleasant dining room with a view as well as laundry services and a small gym. Very clean throughout.
Special mention to Wylie at reception who took great care of us and our family throughout our stay, remembering us by name from the first day.
Beautiful place to stay, with amazing views of the Hong Kong city centre. The gym facilities are great, with a convenient shuffle bus to Central daily. The restaurant on Cafe on 8 is also very good to eat at for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Would highly recommend!
We’re returning customers . This time long stay, whole family with children. Familiar staff Stanley and Andrew are still providing excellent services. Housekeeping staff are responsive to requests. Delicious dinner menu, tasty pizza, Korean …
My room was very spacious with a nice view. The housekeeping was great and very thorough. The cafe on level 8 is really convenient, with great food. There is a grocery store really really close, and it’s right next to some really nice gardens.
Overall clean, comfortable, relaxing stay. One of my favourite places to stay in HK for business if you’re going to work for an extended period in HK. Comfortable bed and mattress. Very good staff service.
